Mark Bonner will run the rule over the fitness of a number of players before naming the Cambridge United squad for their clash with Sheffield Wednesday at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday, October 19).

Joe Ironside had to go off late on with a dead leg after getting the U's equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday, while keeper Dimi Mitov suffered a back spasm during the game.

Paul Digby was also carrying a knock.

“Speaking to a few of the boys yesterday they seemed to be OK," said United head coach Bonner during a press call on Monday morning. “It's the usual matchday bumps and bruises.

“I think with Joe he should be OK. Diggers took a whack as he does every game, Dimi with his back, all of those will have settled.

“We hope to have everybody pretty much available that was available on Saturday; we're hopeful all of them will be available again, but we will have to see how people get through the session this morning.

“It creates a challenge because you want to go into a session knowing the team, and hopefully we can do by the time we've seen everyone before we're out on the grass.”

Wes Hoolahan played the full match against Ipswich at the weekend, and it has been traditionally the case that the attacking midfielder has missed out on midweek matches.

But Bonner said: “Wes played his first 90 for five weeks on Saturday so he will be better for that in the weeks ahead.

“I wouldn’t discount him from any of the Tuesdays we’ve got coming up but it would be tough for him to turn around from Saturday for tomorrow so we will see how he shapes up and make a call from them.”

Jack Lankester was expected to be in training on Monday, but it was not felt he would be available for selection against Wednesday or for the game at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Bonner added: “The sooner we can get him back up too speed and contributing to the squad the better because obviously we're in a busy month with a couple of cup games coming up.

“We just need to make sure we have as many as possible for that challenge.”
