Cambridge United set for trip to Newcastle United in the FA Cup
Cambridge United have earned a plum draw in the FA Cup, third round.
In the draw conducted live on ITV, former Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman pulled out the No 53 ball of the U's to give them a trip to St James' Park to face Premier League side Newcastle United.
Mark Bonner's side booked their place in the third round with a 2-1 win over Exeter City, with Adam May and Harvey Knibbs on target.
The last time Cambridge United and Newcastle United faced each other in competitive action was in April 1993 in the second tier, the old Division One, when Newcastle won 3-0 at the Abbey.
In the reverse fixture that season, in November 1992, the U's lost 4-1 at Newcastle.
The Magpies have been in the headlines this season after a takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, RB Sports & Media and PCP Capital Partners, and having a new manager arrive in Eddie Howe, who guided the bottom-placed side to their first win of the season last weekend, a 1-0 victory over Burnley.
