Cambridge United suffered a 4-1 defeat at MK Dons in Sky Bet League One.

A disappointing first half that was ultimately the U's undoing.

The hosts went in front in the 13th minute as Max Watters' cross was tapped home in the six-yard box by Scott Twine.

It was 2-0 after 25 minutes as Twine returned the favour, playing a through ball for Watters to latch onto and beat United keeper Dimi Mitov in the far corner.

MK Dons made it 3-0 with Twine getting his second of the game in the 36th minute through a 25-yard free kick.

There was a late chance for the U's to reduce the deficit by the break when Wes Hoolahan played in James Brophy, but the winger blazed over.

United were better in the second half, with Brophy going close again and Sam Smith hitting the bar with a header.

But MK Dons made it 4-0 in the 76th minute, with Watters getting his second through a volley.

There was still time for United to get on the score sheet, with Smith tapping home in the 82nd minute but there was no chance of a comeback by that point.
