Cambridge United unbeaten run ruined by Grimsby
Berrett goal defeats U's
James Berrett’s first-half goal was enough to send Cambridge United to a 1-0 defeat at home to Grimsby in League Two.
The U’s went into the match on the back of a five-game unbeaten run, but they were forced to do without keeper Will Norris, who was suffering from tonsillitis, and striker Uche Ikpeazu, who had a foot injury.
Grimsby had the upper hand in the early stages, and they got the opening goal in the 26th minute as Dominic Vose put in a cross from the left and Berrett headed in from close range.
The Mariners nearly doubled the lead when Omar Bogle’s free kick hit the frame of the goal.
Just before half time, Harrison Dunk was unable to finish off Piero Mingoia’s cross, and James Dunne could not convert the rebound as the U’s sought to get level.
Dunk and Adam McGurk both had chances after the break, but United could not find an equaliser as their unbeaten run was brought to an end.
In the Evo-Stik League Southern, Cambridge City lost 4-1 at home to Redditch United in the Premier Division.
And Histon were beaten 2-1 at home by Aylesbury United in Division One Central.
