Cambridge University Women's Boat Club name crew to face Oxford in the Boat Race
Tricia Smith will be Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club sole returning Blue for the Women’s Boat Race on Sunday, April 7.
The 25-year-old Christ’s College student has been selected in the bow seat for the Light Blues in chief coach Robert Weber’s first year in charge, and is the only oarswoman back from last year's victorious crew.
Denmark international Ida Gortz Jacobsen will row in the No 7 seat, with American Lily Lindsay in the all-important stroke seat and she is one of three former Yale oarswomen in the boat - alongside Sophie Deans and Kate Horvat.
Laura Foster and Larkin Sayre make the step up from last year’s Blondie and former GB internationa Pippa Whittaker completes the crew. Hugh Spaughton will cox the boat.
Oxford have two Blues in their boat, Renee Koolschijn and Beth Bridgmann, and are coxed by Blue Eleanor Shearer.
“It’s a bit different but we approach it with great respect both the racing and the opposition,” said Weber. “As far as getting used to the course, we’re as ready as we can be.”
Cambridge weighed in as the heavier crew at the crew announcement at London's City Hall, at a total of 578.3kg compared to Oxford’s 568.8kg.
