Cambs and Hunts ladies’ team impress at County Match Week
Three wins makes it a successful venture at Woodbridge
Woodbridge Golf Club proved a happy hunting ground for Cambs and Hunts as they enjoyed their best performance for more than five years at County Match Week.
Facing Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, the Cambs and Hunts squad secured their first game win since 2013 - and then added to it with two more.
In the morning foursomes against Herts, there were wins for Miranda and Tabitha Brain, and debutant Emily Slater and Ella Mason.
The singles saw victories for Miranda and Tabitha, and there were halves for debutant Belinda Borneo, Jackie Ewing and Mason to seal Cambs and Hunts a 5 ᄑ - 3 ᄑ triumph.
After a win in the foursomes against Suffolk, it left them needing four wins in the singles, which arrived through Miranda and Tabitha Brain, Borneo and Mason, giving Cambs and Hunts a 5-4 victory.
It was a solid start against Bedfordshire as another win for the Brains, and Slater and Mason put them 2-1 up after the foursomes.
They maintained that in the singles, with Mason, Slater and Sarah Greenall winning, and Tabitha Brain earning a half for a 5 ᄑ - 3 ᄑ win to lead the table.
It was a more difficult challenge against Essex, who included two England internationals, and they powered their way to a 3-0 lead in the foursomes.
The fightback saw Slater, Miranda Brain and Mason earn singles wins, and debutant Charlotte Mumford earned a half, but Essex just held on for victory in the last game to triumph 5ᄑ - 3ᄑ.
Heading into the final match, Cambs and Hunts were in contention with Suffolk and Norfolk for first place.
They were 2-1 down after the foursomes against Norfolk, with the Brains earning the point.
Miranda Brain and Slater earned halves in the singles, and Mason grabbed a win, but Norfolk held on for a 6-3 victory, as Cambs and Hunts finished in third.
At the end of the event, Slater and Mason were presented their county colours by captain Marcella Tuttle.
