Dan Brown makes return to Histon
Dan Brown is returning to Histon for the 2022/23 season.
The striker first joined the Stutes in 2018, and went on to score 26 goals in 40 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign as they won the Eastern Counties League, Premier Division.
Brown departed for Mildenhall Town last season when Histon were switched to the Northern Premier League, but is back after the Stutes suffered relegation to the United Counties League.
Oliver Brookes was appointed captain last week, and the Stutes have also announced that Ryan Towner, Rhys Thorpe, Lee Smith, Sam Roach, Luke Lindsday, Evan Key, Chris Gough, Sam Collison, Mar-Lee Fisher, Marcus Cole, Bubba Camara, Pat Bexfield and Andy Ballester have been retained for the forthcoming season.
In the FA Cup draw, Histon have been pitted away to Desborough Town in the extra preliminary round on August 6.
They will face Debenham LC at home in the Izuzu FA Vase, first qualifying round.
Cambridge City will be away to Biggleswade FC in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, and at home to Yaxley in the FA Trophy.
Meanwhile, Kevin Jacklin has been appointed Histon Ladies’ first-team manager.
The Stutes will run two women’s teams this year, with Matt Payne assisting Jacklin and Kevin Knock and Keith Carter will lead the reserve team.
Jacklin said: “I decided to join Histon as I felt I needed a new challenge after being with Cambridge City Ladies & Girls FC for over 20 years. I have a lot of experience in ladies’ and girls’ football, with a number of contacts built up over the years, and still feel I have something to offer.
“After speaking to Matt Payne, who I had known and worked with in my role as Cambs FA Ladies county manager, I could see straight away that Histon had ambitions to develop and progress their ladies section.
“Combined with my experience and contacts, this seemed like a good fit, and with the excellent facilities and infrastructure around the club, if everything goes to plan, I expect Histon to have a Ladies team back in the Eastern Region League, hopefully by this time next season. The three-year plan will be to try and get back into the Eastern Region Premier Division."
