Ed Rolph has made the move from landlords to tenants by making the switch to Cambridge City.

The 27-year-old striker was captain of Histon last season, but last month announced that he would be moving on after five years with the Stutes, who were relegated at the end of the campaign.

He has now signed for City, and will remain in the Northern Premier League, Midlands Division.

“Cambridge City seemed like a perfect fit for me, offering me an opportunity to further improve my game but more importantly, helping the team challenge for promotion,” said Rolph.

“The side has great quality and experience and are a fantastic bunch of lads off the pitch.

"With the new ground on the horizon there is no reason why this club cannot get back to where it should be and really kick-on this season and I am buzzing to be part of that.

“To the supporters, I look forward to playing and scoring in front of you and hopefully helping to bring some great times to the club in the near future.”

Rolph first joined Histon in 2017 after finishing university in Nottingham, having previously played for Cherry Hinton and Sawston United.

He went on to make 164 appearances for the Stutes, scoring 72 goals including in a prolific partnership with Dan Brown as the team won promotion from the Eastern Counties League.

City boss Robbie Nightingale is delighted to have added the striker to the ranks and hopes he will become a focal point for the side.

“To have secured the services of Ed for the coming season is a real coup for the club,” said Nightingale.

“I am sure he will quickly become a fans’ favourite whose goal scoring ability will help us climb back up the football pyramid.

“The way Ed plays is reminiscent of Gary Grogan when he played for City. As a lifelong fan of the club I know how much this will excite our supporters.”
