FA Cup first round draw: Cambridge United drawn away at National League Woking

Cambridge United have been drawn away at Woking in the first round of the FA Cup.

The U’s will travel to the Kingfield Stadium to take on the National League side over the weekend of 1 November.

The two sides have met on three previous occasions in the competition, with United coming out on top twice.

Cambridge ran out 4-1 winners in 1988 and then beat the Cards 3-1 a year later on their way to reaching the quarter-finals, where they were beaten by eventual runners-up Crystal Palace.

However, when the teams faced off at the Cledara Abbey Stadium in the second round in 1996 it was Woking that triumphed 2-0.

The most recent competitive meeting between the sides came 10 years ago in the National League when Cambridge won 3-0 thanks to goals from Delano Sam-Yorke, Luke Chadwick and Liam Hughes. United went on to be promoted via the play-offs at Wembley at the end of the season – ending their nine-year exile from the Football League.

Woking, who are managed by former Coventry City and Sheffield United midfielder Michael Doyle, are 16th in the National League standings having won four of their first 13 fixtures.

Two goals from Harry Beautyman secured Doyle’s men a 2-1 win over lower-level St Albans City in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.
