Cambridge United 2-0 Lincoln City: Five of the key talking points from today's Sky Bet League One fixture at the Abbey Stadium
Sports editor Liam Apicella takes a look at some of the biggest talking points from this afternoon's 2-0 victory for Cambridge United over Lincoln City.
There is no place like home
In the not too distant past the thought of watching United at the Abbey Stadium filled supporters with dread.
The U's faithful has had more than its fair share of dark days, but today was yet another reminder that those seem to be firmly in the wing mirror.
A little under 24 hours after it was announced that the club once again owned the ground chants of "We've got our Abbey back" could be heard as Mark Bonner's men picked up another three points at home.
It is an historic four wins from four in the league at the Abbey this season – it's fast becoming a venue opposition sides will not relish visiting.
Four-pronged attack
There is a lot to like about United's forward line at the moment.
Shilow Tracey is a right-back's nightmare with his direct running approach and trickery, while on the other flank Sam Smith continues to be a nuisance and a genuine goal threat.
Harvey Knibbs seems to have the licence to float and arrive in dangerous pockets of space, while Joe Ironside has all the qualities you would want from a centre-forward.
Old fashioned forward play
It would be remiss not to single out Ironside – and not just for his two-goal contribution.
There was just two minutes on the clock when he was left with a bloody head following a collison with Lesse Sorensen that saw the frontman doing his best Terry Butcher impression and requiring stitches at half-time.
But there was a moment in the 58th minute that eptimoised just how important the 28-year-old is to this side. He had no right to win possession from George Williams' long clearance, but having used his body well he shielded the ball before winning a foul on the halfway line. It relieved pressure when Lincoln were threatening to get up a head of steam.
Neat footwork
Dimi Mitov will sleep easy tonight after picking up his second clean sheet of the season, but it's with his feet where he particularly impressed today.
Last weekend the Bulgarian had a bit of a horror show for the third goal when he was charged down by Gassan Ahadme, yet today he was coolness personified in possession.
Two or three times he picked out Sam Smith with raking long passes out wide to the right and on one of those occasions the forward would have been through on goal had his touch not been too heavy.
'The boy that stood in The Habbin'
It has been said plenty of times before, but head coach Mark Bonner is a great ambassador for the football club.
The passion in which he spoke about the club regaining control of the ground after the final whistle will have really resonated with the supporters.
And they will also be enjoying what his team are serving up on the pitch at the moment!
