Toby Flood and Emilia Bushrod have been elected Cambridge University RUFC captains for the 2022/23 season.

Former England fly-half Flood is currently studying an executive MBA at Queens’ College, and won his first Blue in the Varsity Match defeat to Oxford on April 2 this year.

Flood has now been chosen by his peers to lead the men's team in the next academic year.

He said: “I am very proud to have been selected by the players to be the Cambridge captain this year. It’s a huge honour, and I can’t wait to start the season.”

Bushrod has been elected as the women’s captain of Cambridge University RUFC.

The two-time Blue is a PhD student in chemistry, and will be the Light Blues’ third Welsh captain in four years, following in the footsteps of Fiona Shuttleworth (2019) and Laura Bleehen (2021).

The scrum-half said: “I’m so excited to have been elected as captain. It’s a real honour to join such an exclusive group of players and it feels good to have the backing of my team mates. I cannot wait to get started and hit next season hard.”
