Will Mannion has signed a new two-year contract with Cambridge United.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper joined the U's last summer, and spent a spell out on loan at Havant & Waterlooville.

He returned to the Abbey to make his Football League debut against Charlton Athletic, and also appeared in the final game of the season against Cheltenham Town.

"I am delighted," Mannion said. "It is a fantastic club - the coaching staff and players are all brilliant so it was a no-brainer really.

"I have got two years now to push on and try to establish myself as the number one so I am looking forward to it. We both know there is only one shirt but all we can do is push each other and support each other. I am really looking forward to the challenge."

United head coach Mark Bonner said: "Will has made some noticeable improvements throughout the season and working with Martin (Davies, the U's goalkeeping coach) has shown the kind of development we want our players to.

"He finished the season in a positive fashion with two good performances which gives us further confidence that he will continue creating good competition for Dimitar (Mitov) while growing further still individually."

Mannion is the third Cambridge United player to put pen-to-paper on a new deal, following following in the footsteps of Greg Taylor and Harrison Dunk.
