Harrison Dunk to miss Cambridge United’s final two games of League One season
Harrison Dunk has been ruled out of Cambridge United’s last two matches of the League One season.
The 31-year-old left-sided player suffered an injury in training prior to the Wigan Athletic match, and that has brought about an abrupt end to his campaign.
“Harrison is done, I’m afraid, for the season,” said United head coach Mark Bonner. “He split his shin, has had some stitches so he is just off for a couple of weeks waiting for that to heal.
“There is no chance of him playing in any of these two games which is frustrating because I think he looked at the two away games and thought, one, he has earned the right to play in them, but they are also games you definitely want to play in as a player.
“The boys are itching to get back out on the pitch this weekend so for Harrison it’s frustrating. It’s disappointing because he has done so well, but obviously Jack (Iredale) comes in and is a top player so will cover that position well.
“We won’t see Harrison for the next couple of weeks. He will obviously be at the Cheltenham game, but won’t play a part in it.”
The same looks to be the case for Sam Sherring, however it looks like his hip/groin injury is not quite as bad as first feared.
“We had a consultation on Tuesday and they did a re-scan which we’re waiting for a report on today that we don’t know the outcome of yet but they were very positive on Tuesday that it was not as bad as they thought first time round,” said Bonner.
“Until we get the absolute answers on that report we won’t speculate too much but there was a real optimism coming out of that meeting that hopefully it isn’t so bad.
“We will wait to see how that one fairs in the next couple of days. I don’t expect him to play in the next two games but for him it looks like, hopefully, it will be a short-term thing.”
Adam May and James Brophy will both be back in the squad for the trip to Sunderland on Saturday (April 23) after being rested for the 2-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
“They are both fine, they will be back in for the weekend,” added Bonner. “In both cases they have done an incredible amount of work really.
“There were some others we wanted in the squad. The worst part of the job is leaving people out of the team or leaving people out of the 18 because normally they are frustrated by it.”
