Harry O'Shea secures Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union Summer Series crown
Harry O’Shea has clinched the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union Summer Series title.
The Links Golf Club, Newmarket player headed to the final round at St Neots with the advantage, but with an eager field on his tail.
After a morning of heavy rain and showers, former captain Owen Cousins set the pace with a round of 68, including five birdies. Ed Dimambro was next through with 69, including an eagle at the par five fifth.
Local knowledge played its part as Adam Northfield came through the field to shoot an outward 33 and inward 35, featuring five birdies, to take the round honours on countback with Davies.
After Gog Magog’s Craig Thorburn and Alex Kephart faded away it was left to O’Shea and Gog Magog’s Joe York to fight it out for the overall title.
York went out in 37 shots to O’Shea’s 36, but was out of bounds on the 15th to give O’Shea an opening. With York firing 39 to finish on 76, O’Shea shot 37 – with a birdie on the last – for a total of 73 to be crowned champion.
Isaac Rowlands won the best nett prize on the day with 68, and James McLaughlin earned the under-21 prize.
Summer Series final standings: 1 Harry O’Shea (Links) 39 points, 2 Adam Northfield (St Neots) 33, 3 Craig Thorburn (Gog Magog) 31, 4 Joe York (Gog Magog) 26, 5 Alex Kephart (Gog Magog) 25.
