Harvey Knibbs praises vital point for Cambridge United in draw at Colchester United

Harvey Knibbs feels that Cambridge United’s 1-1 draw at Colchester United is the sort of result that will help them reach the Sky Bet League Two top seven.

On an awful surface at the Jobserve Community Stadium after snow and rain made it a feat to even get the game on, United battled hard to clinch a point.

Knibbs grabbed his first league goal of the season after 13 minutes, but they were pegged back by an own goal from Greg Taylor, who was helpless to avoid a wicked deflection from Callum Harriott’s shot towards the end of the first half.

“We’ve based ourselves as a team that can adapt to anything. You saw the conditions, and it was about coming here and not losing.

“It was probably worse than it actually looked. On the right side, it was nearly impossible to stand up - it looked like the ball was going off and it would get caught in a puddle.

“Personally for me, it’s another game, a chance to score and I was joking with the lads in the warm-up that the penalty area is fine, and that is where I find myself in.

“You will look at these points at the end of the season when everyone was looking at the pitch thinking ‘is it on, is it not’ and they are the ones that are going to get you in the top six or seven.”

He added: “We’re still disappointed with the draw, but we would take it at the end of the day.

“It’s the mentality of the group that we want to be right up there, and we knew if we won then we might have been top. We want to win every game we play.”
