Histon remain second in Division One while Cambridge St Giles and Burwell & Exning also pick up victories
Histon (174-1) retained their grip on second position in the Onyx League Division One standings after Saturday’s nine-wicket home win at the expense of Wisbech Town (171).
The visitors struggled to contend with the bowling of John Turner, who returned figures of 4-28 from his 11 overs with the ball in hand.
His team-mate Oscar Fry (2-34) also caught the eye, while the was a wicket apiece for Tom Newman and captain Ben Leach.
All-rounder Newman went on to top score during Histon’s reply with an unbeaten 72 runs alongside partner Henry Wilson, who moved up to third in the league’s run scorer standings with 53 not out from just 32 deliveries.
The comfortable victory has left Histon sitting 17 points adrift of Ramsey at the top of the table with eight fixtures remaining.
Histon will play the first of those on Saturday (27 July) when they hit the road to lock horns with eighth-placed Blunham.
Elsewhere, a century from Kunal Dabas helped Cambridge St Giles (253-7 declared) to thrash Blunham (101) by 152 runs on Saturday.
Dabas scored 104 runs at the top of the order during the Division One encounter, which also featured a knock of 47 from Vansh Bajaj and 38 courtesy of James Gillespie.
Not content with his batting exploits, all-rounder Dabas went on to record bowling figures of 3-14 as the visitors were bowled out in 31.5 overs.
Chris Germon (3-30) also took three wickets, while there was two apiece for Bajaj and Aatish Kean Maharaj.
Fourth-placed St Giles will travel to face Sawston & Babraham II on Saturday (27 July).
Meanwhile, Burwell & Exning (205-9) are closing in on Division One’s top five after Saturday’s 22-run victory over Saffron Walden II (183).
The home side’s innings centred around the performance of captain Paul Summerskill, who scored 110 runs – more than half of Burwell & Exning’s overall total.
Summerskill then went on to be involved in four dismissals in his role as wicket-keeper, while Nic Huckle and Dylan Hardy both took three wickets each to get Burwell & Exning over the winning line.
