Two goals in each half clinched Histon a 4-0 win over Desborough Town in the Emirates FA Cup, extra preliminary round replay.

The two sides had drawn 0-0 at Desborough at the weekend, so the sides came back to Bridge Road to battle it out and first-half efforts from Luke Crisp and Ryan Towner, and two late goals from substitute Luke Lindsay sealed their passage into the next stage.

The visitors definitely made the better start.

Their crisp passing was moving the ball around the pitch well, and stretching Histon in defence.

A shot was flashed wide, and then Ian Blaikie really should have done better in the eighth minute.

A ball arrived to him unmarked just inside the area, but he blazed it over the bar.

It almost acted as a switch for Histon, as from that moment they carried a far greater threat going forward and, in the 11th minute, the broke the deadlock.

The goal owed much to the perseverance of Crisp.

Trying to create space in the box, it twice looked like he had lost possession, but the midfielder kept battling forward and managed to get past two players to fire home.

Three minutes later, Histon doubled their lead.

Evan Key's flick from a corner was not cleared properly and it fell to Towner, arriving just inside the area, and he drilled a shot into the back of the net.

Histon certainly had their tails up.

Rhys Thorpe cut in off the right to hit a 20-yard shot that was held by Desborough keeper Adam Honour, and the striker then broke into the box but from an acute angle fired into the side netting.

Desborough regained their composure and there was a let off for the hosts at the back post, when Aaron Davies arrived late only to turn an inswinging cross wide.

Towner almost had an identical goal in the 40th minute, but this time Honour held the shot low down.

It meant Histon headed into half time with a 2-0 lead, and knowing that they just needed a repeat performance to progress to the next round.

Desborough made a swift start to the second half though.

Jordan Fowler flashed a header across goal for the visitors that would have just needed a touch to go in.

But the more it wore on, the more open it became.

Brown got into the area for Histon, but Honour was out quickly to thwart him with his feet.

A great strike by Phil Dashit from distance seemed to be heading for the top corner, only for Histon keeper Sam Roach to produce an equally good, full-length flying save.

Substitute Luke Lindsay got in behind the Desborough defence, but was denied by Harbour at his near post while, at the other end, Jake Bettles hit a shot straight at Roach from the edge of the area.

Charlie Tunnell headed wide at the back post late on for Histon, but the scoring was not finished.

Lindsay did well outside the area to go past an advancing keeper to fire into the top corner, and then after Marcus Cole had headed the ball back to Bubba Camara, he squared a pass to Lindsay, who calmly finished past Honour.

It means that Histon go through to play Mildenhall Town in the next round on August 20.
