Histon to trial earlier kick-off time against Long Buckby amid rising cost of electricity
In a break from tradition, Histon will kick off at 2pm on Saturday (November 5).
The Stutes have taken the decision to bring the start time of their Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division South clash against Long Buckby forward by an hour to reduce the need for costly floodlighting now that the clocks have been put back.
A statement from the club read: “At the suggestion of the FA, the United Counties League granted permission for home clubs to bring forward their Saturday kick-off times so that matches can be completed in natural daylight, provided that both sides consent to the change. Long Buckby were happy to agree to our request for an early kick off, so we therefore start on Saturday one hour earlier than usual.
“The benefit to clubs is the significant reduction in electricity costs resulting from finishing matches before the natural light has faded, plus the equally important reduction in our contribution towards global warming.
“At present, the switch to a 2pm kick-off is experimental, so supporters are advised to keep a lookout for any future announcements on the club website and social media platforms about future fixtures.
“An added benefit from the early start is that fans can travel home after the game in daylight, perhaps tuning into a BBC Premier League commentary along the way and enjoy a longer evening at home. But, however you feel about the change, the club board would be glad to hear your views.”
Eighth-placed Histon, who announced the departure of forward Rhys Thorpe earlier this week, go into the Buckby game on the back of a 3-2 loss to Milton Keynes Irish.
Oliver Brookes and Luke Lindsay were on target for Lance Key’s charges.
