Bassingbourn racer Jenson Mason eager to battle at the top end of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship in 2024
After making an impression during his debut season in car racing, Jenson Mason has lofty ambitions for 2024.
Aged just 14, Bassingbourn-based Mason was the youngest driver on the grid during last year’s BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship.
Yet he defied his tender age to finish fifth in class and ninth overall – a campaign that included two podium places at Knockhill and Brands Hatch.
“Last year was amazing,” said the Bassingbourn Village College pupil, who this season will continue his association with Wera Alliance Racing Academy in their MK7 Fiesta.
“I learned so much and made good progress, and I loved every second of it.
“I am very proud of our achievements, especially as privateers. I had the best year and have made some lifelong friends.”
The now 15-year-old is the son of David Mason, a former ministox and superstox racer who won numerous championships during his career behind the wheel.
And with the new Fiesta Junior Championship getting under way over the weekend of 13/14 April at Brands Hatch, Mason is keen to follow in the footsteps of his father.
He added: “I’d like to win the championship. It will be hard but it’s something I think is realistic.
“We had a lot of mechanical issues last year and if we get more luck this year than we’ll see what happens.
“(Winning the championship) is something I aspire to.”
After starting at Brands Hatch later this month, the 2024 campaign will take Mason to Snetterton, Oulton Park, Croft, Silverstone National, Thruxton and Silverstone International.
