Khandel Light earn triumph at Cambridge University RUFC corporate touch rugby tournament

Khandel Light were victorious in a corporate touch rugby tournament held at Cambridge University RUFC’s Grange Road.

Bouygues, Cantab Capital, Carter Jonas, The Howard Group, PEM, PWC, Savills, Sygenta, Shelford and Huntingdon Rugby Clubs took part, but it was Hill, Khandel Light, Charlie’s Angels and the Optimists were among 16 teams in action.

Charlie’s Angels, a team based around former Light Blues captain Charlie Amesbury, defeated Hill in the first semi-final, and in the second match, Khandel Light beat former England sevens captain Ollie Phillips’ Optimists.

In the final, Khandel Light, which works to improve the lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged families in Khandel and its surrounding villages situated in the state of Rajasthan, India, triumphed 5-2 against Charlie’s Angels.

“It was played in very good spirit and at a high level,” said Jeremy Macklin, of Cambridge University RUFC. “The standard of rugby that was being played was dramatically better. Last year’s finalists, Carter Jonas and Syngenta didn’t even get to the semi-finals.”
