U's denied by Wanderers

Cambridge United were robbed of at least a point as they lost 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers in Sky Bet League Two.

Wycombe had taken an early lead from the penalty spot, with Paul Hayes converting in the sixth minute after Mark Roberts had fouled Aaron Pierre in the area.

A scrappy half ensued, and ended with bad news for the U’s as Josh Coulson was stretchered off after a challenge from Paris Cowan-Hall.

Uche Ikpeazu came on for United at half time, and he called Wycombe keeper Jamal Blackman into early action, with the striker’s effort being parried.

United were piling pressure on the visitors and Blackman was twice on hand to deny Roberts.

Luke Berry’s free-kick went narrowly over and Blair Adams was thwarted by Blackman.

United got their equaliser with three minutes remaining as Ikpeazu’s effort hit the post and George Maris was on hand to steer home the rebound.

But in the fifth minute of stoppage time a corner was not cleared properly and Pierre thundered a shot into the roof of the net to grab Wycombe’s second goal and send United to an undeserved defeat.
