Cambridge United left-back Scott Malone to miss Burton Albion and Birmingham City games with hip flexor injury

Scott Malone could well have played his last game for Cambridge United.

The former Millwall left-back joined the U’s in early March on a short-term deal that is due to expire at the end of the season.

And with Malone now set to miss Cambridge’s last two fixtures against Burton Albion and Birmingham City because of a hip flexor injury, his stint with the club looks to be over having made eight appearances.

United boss Neil Harris said: “Scott's done for the season. He's not going to be available.

“It’s just a quick turnaround. When you come off, like I said in the game (against Charlton Athletic) 10 days ago, it's very difficult to get that turnaround so fast. It would be really reckless of Scott to even try and push and get back on the training pitch for next week.

“It's just not going to happen. We'll accept that. It's absolutely fine.

He came in to help us out, and we’ve helped him out. He really added value to us as a group. He's got us through a period of having a natural left-footed balance, and Danny Andrew is now fit. We're fortunate for that.

“But Scott is not going to be available for the last couple of games. We thank him for coming to help out and giving his all. It would be nice to have him, but he's not going to make it.”
