Histon bow out of FA Vase with defeat away at Great Yarmouth Town

The road to Wembley slammed shut for Histon after today’s 2-0 defeat at Great Yarmouth Town in the FA Vase.

The Stutes made the trip to the Norfolk coast having beaten their hosts 4-3 in the same competition last season.

However, hosting Yarmouth gained their revenge in front of a crowd of more than 250 at The Wellesley to book their place in Monday afternoon’s second round draw.

Histon fell behind in the 18th minute when goalkeeper George Whitehall palmed the ball out, only for the home side’s Ryan Jacobs to turn in the rebound.

And Yarmouth doubled their advantage early in the second half courtesy of Jesse Fenn.

After losing for a third time from their last four outings in all competitions, Chris Nunn’s Histon will aim to return to winning ways on Tuesday (22 October) when they play host to Eynesbury Rovers in the United Counties League Premier Division South.

Both sides are locked on 16 points for the season, with 11th-placed Histon one position better off by virtue of their superior goal difference.
