U's canter to comfortable victory

Luke Berry notched a double for Cambridge United in a dominant 4-0 win over Notts County in Sky Bet League Two.

United were the dominant force throughout the first half as County struggled to get out of their own territory.

The first sight of goal actually came from County though, with Michael O'Connor's effort deflected off Elliot Hewitt and easily collected by Will Norris.

A minute later, Blair Adams skilfully combined with Piero Mingoia on the left and broke into the box before firing a shot across the face of goal.

United took the lead through Berry's persistence and Adam Collin's howler in the 18th minute.

The Notts County goalkeeper rolled the ball out to clear, and Berry stormed in to close him down, and the U's midfielder did just that, with the clearance hitting the hosts' player to roll into the net.

United should have doubled their lead when Berry headed down Mingoia's cross but from yards out, Mark Roberts managed to clear the ball over the bar rather than turn it home.

An intricate build-up saw Berry then put through but Ben Williamson, but the striker's effort from a tight angle was well held.

It was in the second half that the floodgates opened for the U's.

It took 10 minutes before a marauding run from Adams carried the left-back into the box, and he slipped the ball into the path of Ikpeazu, who controlled the pass and with a hint of fortune with the bobble, he got it out of his feet to stroke the ball home.

Four minutes later, Berry was picked out running into the box and Collin did well to make a smart stop at his near post, but the U's midfielder was alert to improvise while lying on the floor and fired in a shot off the bar.

It was 4-0 when Harrison Dunk robbed the ball from Louis Laing and then slotted through Mingoia, who had all the time to place his shot inside the keeper's right-hand post.

United stayed in control for the rest of the game, and rode out for a comfortable victory.
