Luke Berry strikes in Cambridge United win over Newport County
Delight for the U's
Luke Berry’s late goal saw Cambridge United clinch their first Sky Bet League Two win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Newport County.
The hosts went ahead in the 10th minute as a ball into the United box reached Rhys Healey, who headed past keeper Will Norris.
Manager Shaun Derry made a double substitution at half time, and it reaped rewards 15 minutes later.
Substitute Uche Ikpeazu was fouled on the right and former Newport player Medy Elito put the free kick into the box for Ikpeazu to head into the bottom corner for his first goal for United to make it 1-1.
The all-important second goal arrived in the 83rd minute, as this time Elito was fouled and the winger then put the set piece into the area, and after a scramble Berry turned the ball home.
And United were able to see out the rest of the game to seal their first league win of the campaign.
In Evo-Stik League Southern, Premier Division, Alex Serrano was on target for Cambridge City as they lost 2-1 at Basingstoke.
And in the Central Division, 10-man Histon went down 4-1 at home to Kidlington, with Harry McGregor getting their goal.
