Mark Roberts leaves Cambridge United
And Luke Berry hands in a transfer request at the U's
Mark Roberts has left Cambridge United by mutual consent.
The 33-year-old has had his contract terminated by the club in order to pursue first-team opportunities elsewhere.
Roberts joined United in the summer of 2015, and has made 65 appearances, but has been in and out of the team for the last year, and has not been involved so far this campaign.
United chief executive Jez George told the club’s website: “Since arriving at the club, Mark Roberts has been an absolute professional, on and off the pitch.
“He has always conducted himself impeccably, regardless of whether he has been in or out of the team, and has the respect of all the staff and players.
“Mark is a man of the highest integrity, he has been an excellent role model for our younger players and was a real asset for the club within our community engagement.
“We empathise with his desire to play regularly and were therefore compliant to his wish to move onto other potential opportunities.
“He leaves with our best wishes and we wish him every success for the future.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Luke Berry has handed in a written transfer request and will not be involved in the U’s home match with Morecambe this Saturday (August 26).
