Cambridge United goalkeeper Marko Marosi happy to ‘embrace the challenge’ of League One relegation battle
Marko Marosi is ready to ‘embrace the challenge’ of a relegation battle with Cambridge United.
The goalkeeper joined the U’s earlier this week on a deal until the end of the season following his release by Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle.
And the scrap for League One survival will not be a new experience for the 31-year-old, who was part of the Shrewsbury side that managed to keep their heads just above the water last term.
“I’ve been here before in this position. Obviously I was with Shrewsbury last year and were weren’t doing great,” said Marosi, who has also been promoted from League One during his days with Coventry City.
“It’s a challenge but it’s a challenge that I’m going to embrace and take head on. I don’t see any reason why we can’t come out of it on top.
“Getting promoted out of this league was amazing but in my last season with Shrewsbury where we were battling to stay in the division, the team has to come together.
“That’s when the changing room really shows itself and everyone has to be accounted for. That’s when you truly find out what people are about and how much they’re in it.”
Marosi joined Plymouth on a short-team contract in September as injury cover for Conor Hazard.
However, he was unable to dislodge Daniel Grimshaw and he left Home Park without making an appearance, meaning that he last featured in a competitive fixture on the final day of the previous campaign when Shrewsbury were beaten 3-1 by Leyton Orient.
Nevertheless, the former Slovakia Under-21 international is confident that he is physically and mentally ready to play should he get the nod from head coach Garry Monk at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
“I went there to do my job, to work hard and if the opportunities come, you’re ready,” he said.
“Unfortunately the opportunity didn’t come. Grimmy was doing really well and that’s absolutely fine.
“But if there was that opportunity there I was ready. I feel good.”
