Young Cambridge United striker makes youth loan move

Matt Foy is among four new signings for Cambridge City ahead of their home clash with Chesham United this Saturday (January 28).

The 18-year-old Cambridge United striker has joined on an initial one-month youth loan, and joins fellow striker Goldy Capela, keeper Dean Snedker and wide man Darren Foxley in making the move to the Lilywhites.

Having first joined the U’s academy at under-nine level, Foy regularly played up an age group as a schoolboy and signed his first professional contract in November, after excellent goal-scoring form for the youth team.

And he made his professional debut for United against Scunthorpe United in the EFL Trophy.

Ben Strang, the Cambridge United head of football operations, said: “Matt has continually scored goals at the club through all age groups, from our under-nines through to the youth team.

“We are confident that he can go to Cambridge City and make a positive impression. As with Harry Darling’s loan move last week, the club recognises that it’s vital our young professionals now play in senior football as the next stage of their development.

“City have enquired regarding Matt’s availability for a while and shown a keen interest in taking him on loan. With eight games during this loan spell it is an ideal time for him to make this move.”

Capella moves to City from Billericay Town, where he has scored nine goals in all competitions this season, having previously been with Dagenham & Redbridge.

Foxley is a product of the Dagenham & Redbridge academy and can play as a striker or a left winger, and has played for Barkingside and Soham Town Rangers since leaving the Daggers, making 33 appearances and scoring four times.

Keeper Snedker, 22, arrives at City from Kettering Town.

He started his career as a scholar at Northampton Town, and after signing a contract at the Cobblers was loaned to Brackley Town, who he ended up signing for on a permanent deal.

Snedker, who was part of an England under-19 squad in 2013, made the switch to Kidderminster Harriers before then moving to Kettering.

Meanwhile, following the signing of Jake Carroll, Blair Adams has left Cambridge United by mutual consent.
