May Bumps 2022: Pictures of day two as Newnham look peerless on headship

Two days down, two days to go and there is no sign of either Newnham or Caius being shifted off their perches at the top of the respective May Bumps division one standings.

Newnham looked particularly impressive in rowing over at the headship of the women’s division for a second day in a row, seemingly pulling away from second-placed Emmanuel with every stroke.

Caius appeared to be rowing within themselves in the men’s division one to keep Magdalene at arm’s length, but that was not the story throughout the rest of the divisions.

Two of the top spots for crowd-pleasing bumps are at Grassy Corner and in front of the Plough, and in the Women’s Division One, there were a number of crews that obliged with scalps in the hot spots.

Caius caught Jesus on Grassy to move up to third place, and Pembroke reigned in Lady Margaret in front of the Plough to go up to fifth.

Fitzwilliam seemed set to get their moment in front of the Plough, going two seats past First And Third, who only finally conceded going round Ditton Corner.

There was quite a bit of movement in the top 10 of the Men's Division One.

Pembroke made it two bumps in a row by catching Downing to move up to fourth, while Peterhouse moved up to sixth by moving past Emmanuel, who have gone from fifth to seventh after two days.

Breaking into the top 10 were Jesus, who bumped First And Third.

Down the divisions, there was no repeat of the double-over-bump that took place in both the men's and women's divisions on the first day, but there was a big winner and a big loser in M5.

Clare IV, who bumped up a place on the first day, went from fourth to seventh, while Fitzwilliam III went from seventh to fourth. Magdalene IV dropped a spot for the second day in a row to go to sixth, with Emmanuel IV the benefactors going up to fifth.
