Substitute on song in the second half

Second-half substitute Medy Elito scored a hat-trick to give Cambridge United a 3-0 win at Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two.

The U’s produced a solid defensive performance in the first half, frustrating the hosts who had the long spells of possession.

And United were proving to be a threat on the counter attack, with Luke Berry firing over from outside the box and George Maris going close with an effort across the face of the Carlisle goal.

Elito was introduced at half time for Gerry McDonagh, and broke the deadlock in the 66th minute.

Berry was fouled in the area by Gary Liddle, and Elito hammered the spot-kick high into the net.

And five minutes later, Elito was at it again from the spot, converting after a penalty was awarded for a foul by Nicky Adams on Max Clark.

Carlisle finished with nine men after Mike Jones went off injured and they had used all their substitutes, while James Bailey was shown a red card.

Elito then wrapped up his treble, taking a pass from Piero Mingoia before curling an effort past Carlisle keeper Mark Gillespie.
