Boat Race 2025: Meet the Cambridge University Boat Club’s women’s crew aiming to continue winning streak against Oxford University Boat Club




Cambridge University Boat Club are hunting an eighth Women’s Boat Race victory in a row on Sunday.

The Light Blues have not enjoyed a run of form that dominant over their Oxford University Boat Club rivals since the 1990s.

Below are the eight athletes and cox that will be looking to rack up another win on The Tideway.

Bow: Katy Hempson (Christ’s)

Only took up rowing upon arriving in Cambridge six years ago. Part of the Lightweight crew in 2023 and Blondie in 2024.

No 2. Gemma King (St John’s)

A Lightweight on two occasions and part of Blondie a further two times before being a member of last year’s successful Blue boat. This year’s women’s vice-president.

No 3. Sophia Hahn (Hughes Hall)

A two-time Under-23 world champion with the USA. Took up rowing after moving to Henley with her family.

No 4. Annie Wertheimer (St Edmund’s)

Enjoyed Ivy League success in America before moving to Cambridge last summer. Previously a competitive swimmer.

No 5. Carys Earl (Gonville & Caius)

A member of last year’s Boat Race-winning crew and Blondie 12 months earlier.

No 6. Claire Collins (Peterhouse)

Two-time Olympian with the USA from Tokyo and Paris. Won silver and bronze medals at the World Under-23 Championships.

No 7. Tash Morrice (Jesus)

Joined the senior Great Britain squad in 2023 and went on to win a silver medal at the European Championships that year.

Stroke: Samantha Morton (Hughes Hall)

A gold medal winner with Australia at the Under-23 World Championships. Also enjoyed success at the Head of the Charles Regatta and the Princeton Chase.

Cox: Jack Nicholas (Pembroke)

First took up the sport upon arriving at Cambridge. The South African is a relatively recent addition to the line-up.
