National Super League calls for Cambridge United Futsal team

U's could be eyeing Europe

Cambridge United’s Futsal team have earned a place in the FA National Super League for next season.

The U’s have been in good form in their maiden year in Super League North, and have now been selected to play alongside the best sides in the country from September.

The FA will be merging the two regional divisions into a new single tier National Super League for the 2017/18 campaign, and United’s rise in the past two seasons has seen them make the grade.

Luis Mendonca, the Cambridge United Futsal head coach, said: “It’s a great achievement for everyone involved with Futsal at Cambridge United and for everyone that supports us, both on and off the pitch.

“We’ve performed well in the top division this season following promotion last year so it’s great that the FA have decided to give us the opportunity to be involved in the first ever national Super League.

“We are hoping that this will inspire youngsters at Cambridge United and within the region to come and watch the first team play and get involved in the youth set-up.

“It’s all about providing the next generation of U’s players with the best opportunities available: play in the top division in England, play for your national team and who knows one day maybe even represent the U’s in Europe!”
