Shelford edge out HUEL Tring to win Regional 1 South East clash at the Davey Field

Shelford made it three victories on the bounce on Saturday afternoon with a 19-5 home win at the expense of HUEL Tring.

After a run of inconsistent results throughout October and early November, the Peacocks’ form turned around courtesy of back-to-back triumphs over Sudbury and Southend Saxons.

And Shelford are now up to fifth after the weekend’s three-try victory against their visitors from Hertfordshire.

The first of Shelford’s trio of tries came in the 35th minute when Miles Huppatz dotted down and Thomas Birkby followed up by landing the conversion.

Try number two came on the stroke of half-time via Oliver Rudling, with Birkby once again doing the honours with the extras to send Shelford into the break with a healthy 14 points on the board.

The scoring was then completed five minutes from time by an Oliver Barnes’ try, although on this occasion the conversion was off target.

Shelford will go in search of a fourth straight victory on Saturday (14 December) when they travel to face seventh-placed Hertford at Hoe Lane.

And with third-placed Old Northamptonians playing host to fourth-placed Sudbury on the same day, victory for Shelford would see them move into division’s top four positions.

When Shelford faced Hertford in September’s reverse fixture, Michael Dunnett, Euan Rees, Rob Conquest and Harry Rogerson all scored tries in a 37-11 win.
