Cambridge United complete loan signing of Queens Park Rangers midfielder Taylor Richards

Taylor Richards has become Cambridge United’s sixth signing of the summer.

The attack-minded midfielder has joined the U’s on a season-long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers.

Having come through the youth ranks at Manchester City, Richards joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019.

His stint with the Seagulls included two Premier League appearances, as well as a productive loan spell with then Sky Bet League One outfit Doncaster Rovers. The former England youth international featured on 48 occasions for Rovers, scoring 11 goals in the process.

The 23-year-old went on to seal a permanent switch to QPR last summer – and after a total of five outings for the Championship side he has made the move to Cambridge.

Richards said: “I am very excited. It’s a big opportunity for me to come here and play some football. I just want to get out there and show what I can do.

“Speaking to the club about my aims and where I want to get to, and the club's aims, and where they want to get to, it all made sense to me.

“I want to get back to enjoying my football and if I am enjoying it, then everything else will come along with that.”

United head coach Garry Monk added: “Taylor is an exciting talent who has huge potential to be an outstanding player in this league.

“He will bring another dimension to our team and we are very excited to work with him this season. I am delighted to welcome him to the club.”

Ryan Loft, Shayne Lavery, Vicente Reyes, James Gibbons and Kell Watts have also joined United during the off-season.
