Sawston & Babraham triumph during East Anglian Premier League encounter away at Saffron Walden

Sawston & Babraham (230-9) continued their good run of early-season Thurlow Nunn East Anglian Premier League form with a 60-run victory at Saffron Walden (170) on Saturday.

Batting first after a delayed start due to a wet outfield, the Rams’ innings centred around two partnerships.

Opener Callum Guest (56) and Ben Claydon (66) came together with the score 13-2, but they more than steadied the ship by putting on 107 runs for the third wicket.

The dismissal of both in quick succession saw Sawston & Babraham wobble for a period, but Alex Evans (57) made it back-to-back half centuries – much of which was scored alongside captain Dan Heath (10) – to push the visitors comfortably beyond the 200-run mark.

Sawston & Babraham have suffered a number of injury issues so far this term, particularly in the bowling department.

However, they still had George Darlow to call upon and his figures of 6-37 in 7.5 overs were a major contributing factor in the team’s victory alongside Beaumont, who weighed in with 3-21.

All four of the sides above Heath’s men also triumphed, meaning that Sawston & Babraham remain fifth in the table ahead of their home encounter against Great Witchingham at the Spicers Sports Ground on Saturday (25 May).
