Rhys Thorpe struck the winner as Histon triumphed 2-1 to end March Town United's 100 per cent record in the Uhlsport United Counties League, Premier Division South.

The Stutes took the lead in the 17th minute through an own goal by March keeper Jonah Gill, which was only the third goal the Hares have conceded in five league matches this season. However, Scott Callaghan equalised for the visitors four minutes later, but Thorpe struck in the 77th minute to send March to their first defeat in five league games.

There was an early chance for Histon as a free kick from Alex Stevens-Lee was headed just wide of the far post by Evan Key.

It was a free-flowing match and Luis Cowie cut into the box only to fire March's first chance wide.

A minute later, Stevens-Lee sent Dan Brown racing through and he was denied by a smart stop from March keeper Gill, who was then up quickly to deny Thorpe with the rebound.

However, things were to go from good to bad for the No 1 from the resulting corner as Gill punched Charlie Tunnell's delivery into his own net.

March were back on level terms four minutes later.

Histon keeper Sam Roach did well to get down sharply to Danny Emmington's free kick, but the visitors reacted quickest and Scott Callaghan hit home the rebound.

Gill saved with his feet to deny Stevens-Lee at the front post in the 27th minute and the same player had the final chance of a half that Histon had edged, firing over the bar from 25 yards.

Sights on goal in the second half were few and far between for both sides, with defences most definitely on top and the final ball just not quite accurate to find a way through.

Histon had started to gain the upper hand, aided by the unselfish running of Marcus Cole up front, and they took the lead in the 77th minute.

It was Cole that sent Thorpe free in the area to arrow a fierce shot across Gill and into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Histon were digging deep in defence to keep March at bay, and their organisation was restricting any chances for the visitors.

Five minutes were added at the end of the match, but the only clear-cut opportunity went the way of the hosts, through Coles' back header that was easily held by Gill.

It meant that Histon clinched their second win of the season.
