Reading v Cambridge United: Sullay Kaikai ‘touch and go’ with knee injury while Dan Nlundulu and Zeno Ibsen Rossi shake off knocks picked up against Wigan Athletic
Sullay Kaikai is ‘touch and go’ to feature for Cambridge United during tonight’s League One clash away at Reading.
The attacker limped off with a knee injury during the first half of Saturday afternoon’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.
However, there is a chance that the 29-year-old could be a part of the U’s squad at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
”SK is touch and go. We’ll do a final test on him because he’s a little bit sore,” said United head coach Garry Monk. “It was a clash of knees that made him come off.”
Striker Dan Nlundulu and centre-back Zeno Ibsen Rossi were also substituted with knocks at the weekend, but both are fit to make the trip to face the Royals.
However, loanee playmaker Josh Stokes has suffered a slight reaction in his recovery from a knee problem and he will not be part of the travelling party.
Meanwhile, this evening’s opponents Reading have the second best home record in the division having collected 18 points from a possible 21.
Looking ahead to the clash, Monk added: “They’ve got some real quality in their ranks – some real high potential young players and some experienced mixed in with that.
“They’re athletic, they’ve got a lot of energy and at home they’ve been particularly strong.
“It’s another tough test for us but we’re trying to focus on the consistency of our performance. In this period, apart form the obvious one against Peterborough, all the other games we’ve been well in them and the performance levels have warranted points.
“As long as we’re giving ourselves that chance, that’s really what we can strive for. We’re just focused on ourselves and get ourselves as best prepared as we can.”
Cambridge go into the clash against their seventh-placed hosts sitting in 22nd place, three points adrift of safety.
