Cambridge beaten 43-33 during RFU Championship clash away at Coventry
Cambridge gave themselves just too much to do during their return to RFU Championship action at the weekend.
On what was their first outing in the league for two months, Cambridge found themselves 31-14 down heading into the break at Coventry.
The response in the second half was spirited, but ultimately they went down to a 43-33 defeat to remain bottom of the table.
Nevertheless, interim head coach Anthony Allen saw enough positives after the restart to be upbeat about what is to come.
“We spoke during the week about playing our game so it was really disappointing around how we started,” he told the Jacko Podcast.
“We let them have two or three easy scores, but if we believe from the first play and from the first minute – like we had at the end and throughout that second half – we’d have been on the other side of that result.
“We had every opportunity to have some excuses and we didn’t. The boys stuck at it and dug at it. We’ve just go to build on that and back it up.”
Cambridge will have home advantage on Saturday (29 March) when they welcome Hartpury University to Elliga Fields.
Having recorded a narrow 29-26 home win at the expense of Bedford Blues last time out, Hartpury are up to fourth in the league standings with a return of eight victories from their 13 outings.
