U's edge closer to Sky Bet League Two play-offs

Cambridge United are just one point off the Sky Bet League Two play-off places after a 1-0 win over Exeter City on Easter Monday.

The U’s bounced back from a 2-1 defeat to Grimsby on Good Friday by earning victory at the Cambs Glass Stadium through Leon Legge’s 29th-minute header.

“It was a massive win,” said United manager Shaun Derry.

“We knew that we had to turn up and put an incredible amount of effort into the game, especially after the loss on Friday.

“We wanted to come back and win, especially at home against a really tough team.

“We knew it was going to be one of those games where not a lot of chances would come our way because of the way they set up away from home, but it was a fantastic ball in for the goal and a great finish.

“And we managed to get the win, and I thought we deserved it. We’ve gone into the dressing room and seen the other results and we’re delighted, and look forward to next Saturday.”

The U’s travel to Portsmouth on Saturday, before matches with Crawley and Wycombe.
