Histon record big Premier Division South victory at Godmanchester Rovers on Boxing Day

Histon closed the gap on the United Counties Football League Premier Division South play-offs to three points after recording a thumping 5-1 win at Godmanchester Rovers on Boxing Day.

The Stutes, who have won five of their last seven league games, went into the break 2-1 up courtesy of goals from Pharrell Anderson and Joe Sutton – both of which were assisted by Connor Barnes. Godmanchester’s goal, meanwhile, was scored by former Histon striker Dan Brown.

However, while the scoreline was close heading into the break, in the second half the visitors ran away with the contest against their bottom-of-the-table hosts.

Joe Sutton doubled his tally for the afternoon alongside a brace from captain and defender Max York, who took his career goal tally to 100 in the process.

The skipper wrote on the social networking site X: “A great Christmas spell for the boys at Histon. Hopefully we can keep some momentum going into the new year. Hitting 100 career goals is also a great finish to the year on a personal note.”

Eighth-placed Histon will aim to continue their pursuit of the top five on Saturday, 4 January when they welcome Rugby Borough to Bridge Road.
