Histon beaten 3-1 by Newport Pagnell Town in United Counties Football League Premier Division South

Histon’s winless run of form in all competitions stretched to seven matches after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat away at Newport Pagnell Town.

The Stutes fell behind with only eight minutes on the clock at the Willen Road Sports Ground when Edwin Daffern turned the ball in at the back post.

And the hosts went on to double their advantage in the 22nd minute through Adam Pryke, who applied the finishing touch after Histon goalkeeper George Whitehall had made an initial save.

However, Histon got themselves back into the contest eight minutes before half-time through Pharrell Anderson’s driven effort from Connor Barnes’ pass.

Barnes almost got his name on the scoresheet during the second half with a glancing header that just missed the target.

The game was eventually put out of the visitors’ reach in stoppage time via former Cambridge City midfielder Bruce Tsinonis, who came off the bench to score Pagnell’s third goal.

Eleventh-placed Histon will return to action on Saturday (29 March) away at a Leicester Nirvana side that are two places and five points below them in the United Counties Football League Premier Division South standings.

Histon won the reverse fixture between the two teams in early February 2-1 thanks to goals from Barnes and Joe O’Neill.
