Tom Knowles has left Cambridge United to sign for Yeovil Town on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old midfielder will bring to an end a four-year association with the U's, which started in 2016 with the club's shadow scholarship programme before moving through the full-time scholarship programme and into the first-team fold.

Knowles has made 12 appearances for United's first team, scoring twice, but has made the switch to the National League side on undisclosed terms in search of more regular first-team football.

Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner said: “Tom has had limited game exposure with the first team in recent months and with such opportunities in the future looking to follow suit, we have been exploring the potential opportunities for him to play.

“The move to Yeovil has come about fairly quickly and provides Tom with an excellent opportunity to play, alongside the security of a longer contract.

“This is a sensible solution for Tom having outlined that his future opportunities with us will be limited and at this stage in his development, regular football is vital if he is to secure a long term career.

“This is a big decision for him and we wish him the very best of luck at Yeovil for this season and beyond. We continue to be available to support him when required, having known him for such a long time we continue to have his best interests at heart.”
