Tom Wightman goal gives Cambridge City IV victory over Cambridge South II
Cambridge City IV fought back twice to beat Cambridge South II 3-2 in Mr Cricket Hockey East Men’s League, Division 2NW.
South took the lead through Steve Jackson’s fierce, rising shot.
Ben Hudson equalised for City through a drag flick that clipped both posts before going in.
A well-worked penalty corner move saw South skipper Matt Puddefoot put them back in front.
As City, who only had 11 players, searched for an equaliser, South’s player of the match, keeper Matt Lee, kept them at bay, making some fine saves throughout the game.
It was 2-2 when City punished defensive dalliance for Alex Cross to score into an unguarded goal.
City got their winner through a penalty corner from Tom Wightman with 10 minutes remaining.
Jack Humby was on target with his 16th goal of the season for Cambridge South in a 3-1 defeat to the University of East Anglia in 1N.
Goalkeeper Mike Gillingham was named player of the match for South for a number of outstanding saves in his final game for the club.
City veterans suffered a 6-0 defeat to St Ives in 2NW.
South III lost out on promotion in 3NW after a 3-2 defeat to March Town. George Anderson scored twice, while keeper Ben Lye was player of the match.
City’s first team lost 3-1 to Sheffield Hallam University in the Men’s Hockey League, Division One North.
Josh Biddlecombe struck for City, while goalkeeper Ben Knights was named BDB Pitmans player of the match in only his second appearance for the first team.
Andy Thomas scored for South VI in a 2-1 friendly loss to Newmarket III.
