Bolton Wanderers v Cambridge United: Jubril Okedina to miss League One clash at Toughsheet Community Stadium
Jubril Okedina will miss Cambridge United’s trip to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
Head coach Garry Monk had previously hoped to have the 24-year-old available for selection following an ankle injury that he suffered during the 3-1 defeat to Reading on New Year’s Day.
However, the centre-back is now expected to be sidelined for another ‘10 to 14 days’.
Monk said: “Jibs will be probably be (out for) 10 to 14 days more. We had a couple of readings back from the scans and the first one we feared the worst but then the second one has come back quite good.
“We’ve got a good medical department here who I trust so Jibs will likely be back into modified training next week and then hopefully the week after that he’ll be available.”
This weekend’s trip to the north west is the latest opportunity for the U’s to generate some momentum into their bid for League One survival, with the gap to safety currently eight points.
Monk’s men have recorded just one victory from their last 14 outings in all competitions, although they did show good battling qualities during the reverse meeting with Bolton in November when Sullay Kaikai’s late equaliser earned a point – a game in which Okedina was red carded early in the second half.
Monk added: “The game we had with them was a really good performance from us considering we were down to 10 men for quite a good chunk of the second half. We showed good character to come back and level it up through SK (Kaikai).
“People always ask in this situation about confidence and belief, but it’s been more about frustration than being despondent.
“We haven’t performed in a despondent way where we’re not connected and there’s no spirit and all the things you’d expect from a team (towards the bottom).
“We’ve got a determined group. I’ve said that from the start and they’ll be ready for the game at the weekend.
“It’s going to be a really hard game for us. Everyone talks about Bolton being a bit indifferent but they’re still a top quality side and it’s a difficult environment to go and play in. We have to be at 100 (per cent) to try and get a result.”
