Two Cambridgeshire squash teams advance through Junior Inter County Championships to reach National Championships

More than 20 of Cambridgeshire’s top junior squash players represented the county earlier this month in the Junior Inter County Championships – a competition that attracts up to 1,000 of the country’s best players every year.

Cambridgeshire entered teams in five different age categories, and the juniors came from across the county, including Comberton, Ely, Hunts County, Peterborough, St Ivo, and Swavesey. The quintet faced some incredibly strong opposition in their Midlands qualifying group, which was hosted at Market Harborough.

However, two of the teams – the Under-15s Boys and Under-13s Boys – have qualified for the national finals in Sheffield next March, with the Under-15s set to compete in the main finals and the Under-13s featuring in the plate finals.

Cambridgeshire were also represented by the Under-13 Boys, Under-13 Girls and Under-17 Boys.

Martyn Goodger, the Cambridgeshire junior organiser, said: “One of the most heart-warming aspects of the weekend was seeing how well our teams bonded and how well the boys and girls supported each other on and off court.”
