Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk concerned about knee injury suffered by Korey Smith before Bolton Wanderers draw

Cambridge United are bracing themselves for some more bad injury news.

United’s lack of available fit senior options was laid bare yesterday afternoon when head coach Garry Monk named five academy players on the bench for the 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers.

And Korey Smith has now joined the ever-growing list of sidelined players after picking up a knee complaint in the final training session before the trip to Bolton.

The midfielder is yet to have a scan on the problem, but Monk is ‘not hopeful’ of a positive outcome.

He said: “He'll need to go and see the consultant and have a scan properly. Obviously it has swollen right up so he wasn't available (to play Bolton).

“The record of injuries (this season) has never been short term so I'm not hopeful, but until we get that scan properly we won't the extent of the period that Korey will be out.”

Smith has made 29 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
