Cambridge United striker Dan Nlundulu could return from hamstring injury in time to face Stockport County

Dan Nlundulu is closing in on a return to action for Cambridge United.

The striker, who is on loan with the U’s from fellow League One side Bolton Wanderers, has been sidelined since early January with a hamstring injury that he suffered during the 1-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

The initial prognosis was that Nlundulu would be sidelined until March, but he has been ‘progressing really well’ in his recovery and could potentially be involved when Stockport County visit the Cledara Abbey Stadium on 22 February.

“He’s back into modified training now,” said Cambridge head coach Garry Monk.

“It depends how the rest of this week goes, but he will either be back into full training next week with a possibility of (playing at) the weekend (against Stockport) – if not it will be the following week.

“That’s what he was quoted (when he suffered the injury) but he’s been progressing really well so he might be moved forward – we’ll have to see.

“He’s got to tick the boxes from the sports science and the medical department.”

Nlundulu has scored five goals in all competitions this season for United, four of which have come in League One.
