Cambridge United head into Christmas break with home win over Norwich City

Cambridge United have racked up back-to-back victories in the FA Women’s National League Division One South East thanks to Sunday’s 2-0 win over Norwich City.

Prior to last weekend’s 5-1 triumph at Actonians, the U’s had gone five league games without a victory.

However, Darren Marjoram’s side will now head into 2025 having collected maximum points from their two most recent outings.

United broke the deadlock in the 19th minute against the Canaries when Isabella Simmons was fouled inside the box and Sarah Wiltshire stepped up to convert the resultant penalty kick.

And Simmons added her name to the scoresheet with 33 minutes on the clock via a close-range flick.

“They’ve worked so hard. We’ve had to come through some tough times,” said Marjoram.

“If we were a boxer we’d have probably only won one round in the first part of the season until last week.

“You’ve got two choices – you either hang on or you come out slugging.

“They’ve come out with such a great attitude in the last couple of weeks and they fully deserved it.”

Ninth-placed United will next be in action on 5 January when they travel to face Chesham United, who are 10th.
