Cambridge United rack up third straight league win with victory over London Seaward
Cambridge United moved up to seventh in the FA Women’s National League Division One South East table courtesy of Sunday’s 1-0 home win over London Seaward.
The U’s, who saw last weekend’s trip to Chesham United postponed, finished 2024 with back-to-back victories at the expense of Actonians and Norwich City.
And it is now a trio of wins in a row for Darren Marjoram’s side, who are just three points adrift of the top four ahead of their break from action until 26 January when they head to Chesham for a rearranged fixture.
Alysha Stojko-Down’s seventh goal of the season was enough to secure the victory against Seaward, with the attacker firing in from the edge of the box in the 70th minute.
The match winner said: “We were on top for most of the second half and we’ve had a habit in other games earlier on in the season of being on top and not turning that into a goal.
“There was a danger the longer it got into the game in the second half without us scoring that we’d start to get a bit scrappy and panicky and rush it.
“From that perspective it was the perfect time to score and obviously I’m really happy with the strike.”
This latest victory continued United’s upturn in form, having previously been on a run of just one win from eight games in all competitions.
Stojko-Down added: “There’s a lot of positivity around the group right now. We know our ability and we also know that there was a few games prior to that run in December where we underperformed and we didn’t get the results our performances deserved.
“It really motivated us to keep working hard in training, keep building on that and now we’re coming away with the points.”
