Cambridge United title winner Shaun Harrington becomes new head of youth coaching at Cambridge City

Cambridge City have announced the appointment of Shaun Harrington as the club’s new head of youth coaching.

Harrington, who was part of the Cambridge United squad that won the Division Three title in the early 1990s, will work closely alongside City's head of youth football Neil Midgley.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Cambridge City player said: “For the past six years or so I have been coaching in and around youth football at various levels. I’ve combined gaining my coaching badges with practical experience and have done a huge amount of learning.

“I think it’s really important as a coach that we ask our players to put themselves out of their comfort zone and see mistakes as learning opportunities. Equally important is that we, as coaches, also share that same mindset for our own growth and development.

“I am very excited by the opportunity that the role of head of youth coaching offers, and I am passionate about helping Cambridge City develop a first-class youth system.

“Neil and I have had some really positive discussions in sharing our vision and ideas, and I look forward to working with the youth coaches, several of whom I know, and supporting them in the best way I can.

The upcoming move into the new stadium has brought a really positive feel to the club and I feel that this can act as a catalyst for the youth teams to really push on and benefit from being around these brilliant facilities.”
